Tracking my 2007 fantasy football picks

My favorite days

Oct 13, 2007, 10:11am | Posted by Steve

I love Saturdays in October. The weather is finally beginning to cool down (That's a relative term, of course. This is Texas. It's still hot.), college football season is in full swing and the baseball playoff are going on. It's my favorite time of year.

Here's what I've got working today. The really fun one to keep an eye on will be the Missouri/Oklahoma game, where I'm shooting for a middle. I got the Sooners at -9 just after lines came out last Sunday, then took Mizzou at +13 last night. Give me a 10-point Oklahoma win (or 11 or 12) and I'll be celebrating wins both ways.

ACTION: 10/13

Bowling Green (team Over 29) at Miami, Ohio
Colorado (+5.5) at Kansas St.
E. Carolina at UTEP (-2)
Georgia Tech at Miami (-2)
Illinois (-3) at Iowa
Louisville at Cincinnati (-10)
Missouri (+13) at Oklahoma
Missouri at Oklahoma (-9)
New Mexico at Wyoming (-3)
San Diego St. (+14.5) at Utah
Texas (-16) at Iowa St.

I took a 1-2 split on my Hawaii bets last night. One first-half bet I won easily, the second I was in line to win but for a last-second missed field goal. The third bet, a second-half play, didn't even come close to coming in.

10/12 College Results

Hawaii at San Jose St. (Under 35 1H) - Win
Hawaii (-9.5 1H) at San Jose St. - Loss
Hawaii at San Jose St. (Under 28.5 2H) - Loss

(For final scores, see the season record page.)

12:57pm
Rutgers started very slowly at Syracuse, falling behind 14-0. They've since awakened, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Orangemen have already done all the scoring they'll do today. I'm adding a second-half bet on the Knights.

10/12 Added play

Rutgers (-7 2H) at Syracuse

1:19pm
Judging from what he said while talking to the TV interviewer on his way into the half, Mack Brown's going to try and run up the score in the second half. I like for the Longhorns to be able to bully a weaker opponent that's already getting tired.

10/12 Added play

Texas (-7 2H) at Iowa St.

7:28pm
I'm tacking on a second-half play for the Mizzou/OU game. It looks like the Sooner defense came to play today. Also a 2H wager on New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech to jump start their sleepy-so-far offenses. I'm also thinking about a possible bet on Cal at their halftime, depending on what the line looks like.

10/12 Added plays

Missouri at Oklahoma (Under 31 2H)
New Mexico St. at Louisiana Tech (Over 23 2H)

8:01pm
Adding Cal at -7 in the second half. Knowing they're playing for a No. 1 ranking should be a big motivator. Also continuing to bank on the real Louisville defense to show up, bumping my Cincy bet with a second-half wager.

10/12 Added plays

Oregon St. at Cal (-7 2H)
Louisville at Cincinnati (-6 2H)

10:15pm
Last one of then day…

10/12 Added play

BYU (-7 2H) at UNLV

Good job on the OU-Missouri game winning both ways. By the way, my contra-Steve strategy of betting opposite you on (full) games on which you give up points would have had me going 5-2.

I tell you, Gregg, this has been a difficult season for betting college football. It seems like there are no good teams, just a whole bunch of mediocre ones. It feels like you never know which team will show up on any given day.

Texas is a perfect example of that. Is Iowa State Texas the real one, or is Kansas State Texas?

We need to get together soon, by the way. Maybe even get Marc out of the house. He's got kid No. 2 arriving very soon, you know.
