Tracking my 2007 fantasy football picks

Is a Friday loss an omen for Saturday wins?

Sep 29, 2007, 10:16am | Posted by Steve

West Virginia gave me a knock last night. A 2-unit loss just after I had increased by base unit up to 30 bucks. That's not a huge hit, but not what I like on a Friday either. South Florida is a much better team than I had given them credit for. The overall game was one of the ugliest I've seen in a long time — there were 10 turnovers — but the Bulls defense is flat-out fast. Fast like Miami in its glory days.

This is the second year in a row USF has screwed the season for West Virginia, and the second year in a row I've been burned betting the Mountaineers against them. We'll see if I learn my lesson in 2008.

On the upside, I remember losing all my West Virginia bets against South Florida last season, then winning every other bet I had on the day. Maybe that's a good sign.

Lots of good bets on the board today and I did a lot of studying during the week. I like my chances to make a nice profit on the day. Funny thing, I feel that way every Saturday but it doesn't always work out. I'm thinking positive today, though…

ACTION: 09/29

Duke at Miami (-24)

Florida St. vs. Alabama (+2.5) [at Jacksonville]

Hawaii at Idaho (Under 77)

Iowa St. at Nebraska (-21)

Michigan St. at Wisconsin (-6.5)

Ohio St. (13 1H) at Minnesota

Temple (+6) at Army

UCLA at Oregon St. (Under 53)

W. Michigan at Toledo (+1)

12:18pm
I'm adding a second-half play on the Miami Hurricanes. They've got twice the yardage Duke has, but have stalled a bit when it's come to putting the ball in the end zone. It feels like they've sort of been pounding Duke with body shots in the first half, and a knockout could come in the second.

Duke at Miami (-10 2H)

I imagine it would be wise to sit pat with the rest of bets, seeing as how I've lost 5 in a row going back to Friday night, but Saturdays are for gambling. And my bets are small enough that I can afford it even if I lose them all. So, screw it, I'm adding a pair:

Kansas St. at Texas (-14)
Iowa St. at Nebraska (-10 2H)

8:42pm
Oof, it's been a tough day. I'm glad I had built up a bit of a cushion with my winnings before today, because on this Saturday I've been getting hit hard. Despite some concerns about a cross-country trip, I'm going to go with the numbers and take Cincinnati over SDSU in the late game.

09/29 Added Play

Cincinnati (-14) at San Diego St.

11:10pm
Last play of the day: Cincinnati has been looking awfully sharp on both sides of the ball against San Diego State, but they're taking a 25-point lead into the half. I expect they'll keep pushing the ball early in the second half, then slow things down. And I don't believe the Aztecs can stop Cincy when the Bearcats are really pushing. So I'm going to cap this rough day of gambling with one last bet on the third-quarter

09/29 Added Play

Cincinnati (-0.5 3Q) at San Diego St.
