Redneck High

I enjoy it when I get to watch "Sunday Night Football." Most weeks I play softball on Sunday evenings, but we're in between seasons right now, so I get to plop myself down in front of the TV this week and next. With the addition of Tony Kornheiser and those obnoxious jock-sniffing songs submitted from athlete-worshipping fans, ESPN's "Monday Night Football" has become unwatchable, but I still like the Sunday show.

Tonight the Bears host the Cowboys, and I'm betting Dallas. Chicago hasn't been playing up to the standards they set over the last couple of years, but the Cowboys have been showing signs of finally shaking off the spell of mediocrity that's plagued them since Jerry Jones got drunk and ran off Jimmy Johnson in favor of Barry Switzer and a succession of washed-up and never-was coaches. A win tonight bumps the Bears off the top of the NFC heap, and Tony Romo and the rest of the team should be well aware of that. I'm betting on tonight being a changing of the guard.

It was an ugly first half, but the Cowboys should have scored a couple of TDs instead of those field goals. I look for their offense to do more in the second half, although I've already about given up on my Over 41 bet for the game.
