A Big 12 team out of their league… in the Sun Belt
What a shocker in Troy, Alabama. Not so much that Oklahoma State lost to a Sun Belt conference team — as far as upsets go, this was hardly on the level of Appalachian State/Michigan — but in the WAY in which they lost. The Cowboys didn't look at all lke a good 1-1 team; they looked like they didn't even want to be there. They looked like one of those teams you see in late October or early November that have already lost a half-dozen games and just want the season to be over.
Mike Gundy sticking with a bad quarterback didn't demonstrate faith in a player, it just made him appear inflexible and unable to adjust to changing game situations.
Fumbles because of poor ball-handling, missed snaps, lack of kickoff/punt coverage, slow-moving defensive pursuit, blocked PATs, those are all signs of a team that doesn't care. When the game was over I was left with the feeling that if the two teams played 10 times, Troy would win 10. That's how outclassed OSU appeared.
I think the question we have to ask about Oklahoma State now (other than "Just how many points will Texas Tech put up on this weak defense?") is whether or not the Cowboys will just roll over now.
Needless to say, I lost this bet.
