Tracking my 2007 fantasy football picks

ACTION: 9/6 - Looking for Louisville early

Sep 6, 2007, 3:33pm | Posted by Steve

It's going to be a good Thursday night of football. Three games on TV all at the same time, and I'm interesed in all three. There will be lots of channel flipping and the use of my laptop for pirated TV reception for the third game.

Everything I look at tells me Louisville will cover the giant spread against Middle Tennessee State tonight, but it's HARD to bring myself to spot a team 40 points. A pointspread that large just doesn't leave any room for mistakes. All it takes is one trash-time score in a blowout to run a winning bet, so I'm not making a full-game play here. What I am on is a first-quarter wager, betting on the Over 14 for that period. I love my chances for a push at the very worst, as the Cardinals won't start slowly two weeks in a row.

9/6 Action

Middle Tennessee State at Louisville (Over 14 1Q)

Depending on all of the games are flowing, I may decide to make some halftime bets. We'll just have to wait and see how the night plays out.

5:48pm
Ah, I'm still betting small at this point in the season. I don't think it'll hurt to be a little more aggressive. I'm going to go ahead and place a first-half bet on Louisville.

9/6 Added bet

Middle Tennessee State at Louisville (-23.5 1H)

7:09pm
Holy cow, what a first quarter, with Middle Tennessee and Louisville combining for 49 points. The Louisville defense is looking far, far from impressive, so I'm taking advantage of the second-quarter line to buy back some of my -23.5 first-half bet on Louisville — I'm putting half the amount on Middle Tennessee at +14. If Louisville outscores them by 15 or 16, I'll lose both bets, but I don't think that'll happen.

9/6 Added bet

Middle Tennessee State (+14 2Q) at Louisville

8:03pm
A 38-35 first half, with Louisville barely hanging on to the lead. I expected lots of scoring, but not like this. The pace is slowing, though. And both teams better hope it continues to slow, because if the scoreboard continues to light up it can either turn into a huge upset loss for Louisville or Middle Tennessee could fall out of the contest. This is why I like the Under bet for the second half, and I'm on it.

9/6 Added bet

Middle Tennessee State at Louisville (Under 37.5 2H)

9:14pm
After three quarters of play in the Middle Tennessee/Louisville game, things have worked out so that I have a nice chance for a middle by playing a fourth-quarter bet. I'm only on the Under 37.5 for the second half, 13 points were scored in the third quarter, now I have the chance to bet the Over 16.5 for the fourth quarter. That gives me an 8-point middle, more than a touchdown. I'm on it.

9/6 Added bet

Middle Tennessee State at Louisville (Over 16.5 4Q)
