Redneck High

The pessimist expects at least one of my bets tonight to lose, not because of a lack of confidence in my picks, but just because I've put together such a hot streak lately — I've won 10 in a row. The optimist in me, though, is louder than that naysaying voice and right now is shouting, "The party's just getting started, baby!"

While this winning streak continues, I'll need to make an extra effort to maintain betting discipline, so I've only got two plays tonight: one NFL, one college. If first-half play in either game sets up a good situation for a halftime bet, I may add, but, unless something fantastic presents itself, everything is for single units. Here's what I'm on tonight:

Some thoughts:

Packers -3

Tonight could well be Brett Favre's last game at Lambeau Field. Although he's nowhere near the quarterback he was even 5 years ago, after the career he's had and the relationship he's had with the fans of Green Bay, can you imagine him going out a loser? Especially to the dogass Minnesota Vikings, who are starting a rookie out of tiny Alabama State University?

BYU/Oregon Under 31, first half

The Over/Under on the full game is 62, which is very high, even for an offense like BYU. The Cougars can light up the scoreboard, as can Oregon, on the rare times when their offense really clicks, but both of these teams have played in only 2 games each this season that crossed that total. To hedge a bit, I'm taking the first-half bet, thinking the teams are more likely to start slowly than to finish that way.
