Tracking my 2007 fantasy football picks

Thanks, I needed that

Nov 12, 2006, 1:53am | Posted by Steve

Now that was the kind of Saturday I needed, 6-2 on the day and both of my double-unit bets were winners (technically I was 7-3, but that's including opposite-side bets I made on the Rice/Tulsa game, after I decided I didn't want to bet on Tulsa after all). After slipping into something of a losing streak, a big day was important. Especially coming right after I upped the size of my base bet.

Here's how it shook out:

11/11 RESULTS

Purdue (+3) at Illinois - Win, $55/$50

Baylor at Okla. St. (-15.5) - Win, $55/$50

Rice at Tulsa (-14) - Loss, $55/$50

Rice (+14.5) at Tulsa) - Win, $55/$50

Texas Tech at Oklahoma (-9) - Win, $55/$50

Texas (-17) at Kansas St. - Loss, $56.20/$50

Texas at Kansas St., Over 49 - Win, $110/$100

Texas at Kansas St., Texas Over 32.5 - Win, $115/$100

Louisiana Tech at Hawaii, Over 37.5 1H - Loss, $55/$50

La. Tech at Hawaii, Over 75 - Win, $52.50/$50

(For final scores, see the season record page.)

The downside to the day was that Texas lost to the dogass Kansas State Wildcats, and that sort of put me in a bad mood. In the big picture it's probably best that the Horns didn't play in the national championship game this season, as the current team isn't ready. I don't like the way they lost, though, which was looking terrible on defense and having their starting quarterback injured on the game's first drive.

One learning that came from the game is that Texas will need to look elsewhere for a backup quarterback. Starter Colt McCoy has been outstanding this year, but Jevan Snead sucked, missing open receivers all night and generally looking scared. I expect he'll transfer after this year, and that's OK by me.

Prediction: Snead will be the starting quarterback for the Houston Cougars in 2008.

NFL Plays for 11/12

6:50pm - LAST PLAY OF THE DAY: The night game should be a good one, but I can't see the Bears losing in consecutive weeks, especially to a Giants team I think is overhyped. And anytime I have a chance to take points on this year's Chicago team, I have to like it. I made two separate bets with slightly different pointspreads.

Bears (+1) at Giants, $30/$27.52

Bears (+1.5) at Giants, $121/$110

4:50pm - ADDED PLAYS: The Saints have done right by all season, and I'm jumping on them for a pair of second-half bets against the crumbling Steelers.

Saints (+4 2H) at Steelers, $22/$20

Saints at Steelers, Under 23.5 2H, $20.60/$20

1:30pm - ADDED PLAY: Patriots have been sleeping so far against the Jets, but I think they'll wake up at the half. I'm on New England for a full unit in a second-half play.

Jets at Patriots (-7 2H), $50/$53.50

I've had such tough look in the NFL for most of the season that I'm a little gunshy. There are only a few plays that look very good to me, and I'm going to play them lightly. Just putting $20 or less on each of them. I'm sort of easing back into the pro game. Here's what I'm on:

11/12 ACTION

49ers at Lions (-6), $20.40/$20

Texans at Jaguars (-7 1H), $20/$21

Texans at Jaguars (-10), $20.60/$20

Texans at Jaguars, Over 37.5, $22/$20

Saints (ML) at Steelers, $10/$23.60
