The more proven of two teams
I had planned on not betting tonight's matchup between undefeated teams, Louisville at Rutgers. My thinking was that both of these teams are overrated, and there's no telling what might happen tonight to determine which team wins. But then I took another look at season statistics and at the games these two teams have played so far.
Now I've got a bet on Louisville and I feel good about it. I still believe both of these team are overrated, but by different definitions of the term. Louisville is ranked No. 3 in the AP and BCS polls, but really isn't the third-best football team in the country. They ARE, though, a very good team. Realistically they probably fall in around 10, and that's pretty good. Rutgers polls at 15, but that's a far reach for them. I've watched several of their games this season and they haven't been overly impressive. The team is undefeated, and they should be with the schedule they have. Any decent team should be. The jist of what I mean is that Rutgers is ranked much farther over their head and haven't been tested against a strong opponent. From what I've seen, I have little reason to believe they'll make a statement against a Louisville team that made something of a statement against a high-octane West Virginia squad last week.
11/9 ACTION
Louisville (-6) at Rutgers, $55/$50
When there's doubt, go with the team that has shown they're for real.
