My week, encapsulated in one game

Oct 9, 2006, 12:05pm | Posted by Steve

The Cowboys/Eagles game yesterday could pretty much serve as a summary for how my wagering has gone for the last week. I'll set the stage by listing the three bets I had on the game:

1. Game: Over 43 points
2. Second-half: Under 22.5 points
3. Game: Cowboys +2

With only seconds to go in the fourth quarter the score was Philly 31, Dallas 24, so I had already won my Over bet. A total of 17 points had been scored in the second half, so I was still in winning territory there. The Cowboys were driving, taking the ball to the Eagles' 6-yard-line for the potential game-tying touchdown. Things were looking very good for me here, as it seemed sure that one of two things would happen, either of which would put me in decent shape for winning two of my three bets. Here is what was most likely to happen:

1. Dallas scores a touchdown and extra point. The game goes into overtime, where Dallas has about a 50/50 shot at winning the game straight-up. Maybe more, as they've got momentum at that point.

2. The Eagles defense somehow holds Dallas and the game ends with 17 points scored in the second half. My second-half Under bet wins.

All was looking rosy. But what actually happened is that crap-ass Drew Bledsoe threw an interception in the end zone that was ran all of 102 yards back for an Eagles touchdown with 16 seconds on the clock. With one lousy pass I went from winning two of three, to losing two of three.

And that's how my week was.

10/8 RESULTS

Bills (+10) at Bears - Loss, $30

Bills at Bears (-0.5 2H) - Win, $33/$25

Rams (-3) at Packers - Push, $30

Titans at Colts (-13.5 2H) - Loss, $33

Cowboys (+2) at Eagles - Loss, $30

Cowboys at Eagles, Over 43 - Win, $33/$30

Cowboys at Eagles, Under 22.5 2H - Loss, $31.50

Steelers at Chargers (-3) - Win, $30/$24.79

(For final scores, see the season record page.)

Two plays on tonight's game, taking the Ravens at the points and going for the Over. I don't believe Baltimore is all that good, but right now they believe they can win, and that counts for a lot. Plus it's never a bad idea to bet on Denver's Jake Plummer to implode.

You've got 140 bucks for the rest of the season. WWtRD?

I'm not being afraid to press that 10.

I'm also not above reloading my accounts…once. But no more than once.
