Tracking my 2007 fantasy football picks

Decent weekend; Looking ahead

Sep 26, 2006, 10:04am | Posted by Steve

I can't say it was a bad weekend for me at all. Despite West Virginia's best efforts to sink me with their lack willingness to put games away, I ended up at .500 on my college plays and winning both of the NFL games I was on. Best of all, I got to visit with my lovely 2-year-old niece and play games like "Throw the Ball Under the Couch" and "Dress Uncle Steve in Hats and Glasses." Now those are good times.

9/24 RESULTS

Bengals (ML)at Steelers - Win, $20/$22.40

Giants at Seahawks (-3) - Win, $24/$20

(For final scores, see the season record page.)

It's odd that I'm having so much more success with the pro game than with college this season, as it's the college game I really enjoy a lot more. Maybe that's exactly the reason I'm doing better with NFL. I think I'm more likely to take action on a college game, even if I'm not completely confident in the likely outcome, because I have so much fun with it. When it comes to the NFL, though, I don't really care if I have only two plays, one play or even no plays. I don't get the same kick out of watching the games, so I may be more coldly analytical when it comes to choosing which are worth risking money on. It'd probably be good for my bankroll if I could apply that process to betting college.

There are only a few lines in either college or NFL that have caught any attention from me so far this, and only one that looked good enough to move on quickly. Here's the one game I've already taken action on:

ACTION

9/30 Ohio State (-7) at Iowa, $22/$20

The Hawkeyes are a better-than-decent team, but they're getting far too much credit here simply because they're playing at home and Ohio State looked mortal in the storm at Penn State on Saturday. But it's not likely to pouring buckets of rain in Iowa this week, and the Hawkeyes aren't in the same echelon as the Buckeyes. They'll be lucky to keep it close, but even at their best I don't see how Iowa can stay within a touchdown. I'm not even real sure it's a given they'll SCORE a touchdown.
