Early lines that have caught my eye
Taking a glance through the lines today, I see a few matchups I'll be keeping an eye on. Here are the ones I'm watching so far:
9/9, Ohio (+14.5) at Northern Illinois
Yes, once a team has played Ohio State, little brother Ohio is a big dropoff. And, yes, Northern Illinois should win this game. But between Northen Illinois' running-back-oriented game and Frank "Party Boy" Solich's coaching ability on the Ohio sideline, I tend to think Ohio stays within a couple of touchdowns.
9/9, Colorado State (-2) at Colorado
I don't for a second believe Colorado State is particularly good, so I'm not saying that. But, damn, man, Montana State?
9/9, Georgia (-3) at South Carolina
I'm very much on the fence on this one. Georgia clearly has more talent than South Carolina, but it makes me nervous to bet against Steve Spurrier (on the college level, at least; in the NFL it was a no-brainer). You never know what he might pull out of thin air.
9/9, Texas Tech (-7) at UTEP
This is the one I'm most likely to move on first. If it looks like the line is going to creep up to 7.5, I'll grab that 7 points as fast as I can. I'll be mildly surprised if UTEP stays within 17, very surprised if they were to finish within the 7-point spread.
