Season begins on a 2-0 note
Jordan Palmer tried his best to hurt me, throwing four interceptions against San Diego State, but UTEP held on to win, meaning both my bets on the Miners paid off. The UTEP team looked a lot like they did last season — better than most college teams, but streaky as heck. For a while there it looked like they were going to completely dominate, then they got sloppy and lazy, and let SDSU's backup quarterback bring the Aztecs right back into it.
Last year, you might remember, UTEP started off winning and was hanging around the shirttail end of the Top 25 poll. Then in about the last third of the season, the started losing games they should have won. Just giving them away. Until they get past that inconsistency, they're going to be a tough team to handicap.
It's nice to go bed with a perfectly winning record. If I were smart at all, I'd probably just stop betting now and collect my small profit. Thank goodness I'm not burdened with any of that sort of common sense.
